Inkwells describe their sound as warehouse rock.

The term refers to a genre which enmeshes the raucous energy of rock with pulsating, atmospheric electronic productions, inspired by the underground nightlife of Paris and London. This tension between analogue and synthetic transpires throughout their sound, their texts or their visuals.

Inkwells is the Paris-based creation of childhood friends Marcus Woodcock (vocals, bass), Nathan Darrow (electric guitar) and Ludwig Krainik-Saul (synths & beats).

Its ethos is embodied in 536°F, their first mixtape, a raw and deliberate experimentation of noise rock, breakbeat and techno. Out 13 December 2024.

Mixtape | 2024 | IKS003

Today the vertigo seized me: I caught it staring through lashes curled like fists I tasted it on bituminous veins, gorged with neon tears I heard it through the street vapour contort like a diesel engine I saw it through your pupil in a bruised, but beating heart I felt the mortar beckon far beneath my feet

Single | 2024 | IKS002

Lay the salt on the sutures Breathe the fumes of the future Cut my skin, make me bolder Join the fugue, step in order Can you feel the love With the heat on your skin Does it burn enough A hundred degrees on my bones

Title graphic design of Petrocolours cover, a single by Paris-based warehouse rock band Inkwells released in 2024.

Single | 2024 | IKS001

I breathe the petrocolours Of your love Shopping for desire You’ve got that silicon smile on quick dial Grabbing at the edges Waiting for the sky to default Diesel streaks on your breath Now I feel you sway to deaf tones Closer to the ether Feel it weigh against my bare bones Petrocolour blues in my blood
